I was recently reunited with my garlic press after it had been “at sea” for over four months, traveling from Los Angeles to France. It was one of only a handful of kitchen items I brought because I couldn’t bear to part with it.
One of the reasons it’s such a treasure (aside from being the best garlic press I’ve ever owned! The thing is 20 years old and works like I bought it yesterday!) but also because the company Rosle has discontinued it?! I cornered them at a trade show once to ask them why?! And they claimed that their spiffy new model was even better. Perhaps. But I’ll keep the one I have, thank you very much. Why mess with success? And now I guard it with my life.
This reunion prompted me to make my favorite Shrimp Scampi recipe: a fantastic weeknight meal that combines garlicky, roasted shrimp with a savory tomato sauce simmered in white wine and herbs. The result is a totally delicious weeknight pasta recipe!
Why You’ll Love This:
The shrimp roasts in the oven while you prepare the sauce (and pasta!) on the cooktop. This allows you to multi-task and get dinner on the table faster!
The pasta is angel hair, so it cooks quickly and is a lot lighter than a bowl of penne.
The sauce is tomato-based but infused with flavor from the white wine, herbs, and capers.
Serve this with my easy Garlic Knots (made with store-bought Pizza dough -Trader Joe’s has the best) and you’ll have a super yummy (and quick!) dinner on your hands!
House Crush of the Week:
We spend a lot of time walking and biking to places here in France (which is SO amazing after living in a “Car Culture” city like Los Angeles). Often, we come upon these old homes, which are little projects just waiting to happen.
It sparks the dreamer in me as I spend a good 5-10 minutes in front of them, envisioning what they could be. I have a thing for old and crumbling homes. I see them like stray cats and dogs that someone (mainly me) should scoop up and rescue! To which my husband promptly throws a bucket of cold water on the idea, talking me out of such folly. Sigh…
But can we just appreciate the cuteness here?
The best part? It’s 20 steps from the beach. Which is maybe why it looks like this. The winter storms here can be rough!
“But let’s just take a closer look shall we?,” I said to my husband Philippe, snapping this picture right before he gently ushered me away from the fence.
I envision training the grapevine to continue across the house, ditching the plastic chairs in favor of some French garden furniture, resurfacing the facade back to its former glory, and who knows what cuteness lies above that garage. What a lovely guest suite a “converted garage would make,” Dontcha think?
Anyway, I just had to share this little gem, as I know many of you are “house people too”. In fact, if you really want to go down a rabbit hole in this regard, follow this account on Instagram. Warning: It’s dangerous, and you could find yourself packing for the “middle of nowhere” if you aren’t careful!
