You Have to Embrace The Muck!

Ask anybody if they speak a foreign language, and they’ll usually shrug their shoulders and say, “Eh, I’m not good at languages.” I always laugh a bit and think, well, nobody is good at foreign languages (in the beginning), that’s why they call them foreign. 

I've come to the conclusion that after trying to learn French for the last 25 years (thanks to my French husband and his family, who don’t speak a word of English), you have to be willing to go through The Muck.

What Exactly is “The Muck”?

The Muck is the yucky part of life that nobody likes. We run from The Muck like the plague because nobody wants to suffer. End of story.

It’s the same reason why nobody loves to go to the dentist, the DMV, or do their own taxes: Because it’s all yucky.

Setting out to learn a new language means you have to be commited to going through the yucky part …
