Waiting to put up the Christmas tree as a kid generated as much anticipation as Christmas Day itself.

We were not one of those families that bolted for the tree lot as soon as the Thanksgiving leftovers were tucked away in the fridge.

Oh no! My parents would push this date as far out as mid- or (gasp) late December so we could enjoy the tree well into the New Year.

Yes, it was torture, but it also heightened the excitement!

When I had my own family, I continued this tradition of shopping for the tree in mid-December because it coincided with the start of the girl’s Christmas break. Last Day of School + Christmas Tree Shopping =Holiday Pandamonium!
